It is planned to finish the building of hydroelectric power stations of Sungtouda and Roghun on the Vakhsh
river. The stations will provide not only internal electric power requirements but also to
export.
Tajikistan is one of the richest storehouses of minerals. As a result of systematic geological survey works within its territory many deposits of fuel and energy row
materials, mining ones, row materials for chemical industry and building as well as deposits of
precious, alloying, rare and nonferrous metals and other kinds of minerals were
discovered.
Now it is explored more than 400 deposits and about 100 ones are exploited. Forty kinds of minerals such as fuel
ones, ore and non-ore ones are mined there.
Tajikistan occupies one of the leading position in the world on reserves of
copper, silver, gold, lead, zinc, bismuth, strontium, stibium
tungsten, gas, coal and mineral water. There are especially sizeable of reserves of
salt, facing, hand made article and precious stones in
Tajikistan.
Tajikistan has at its disposal vast potential of industry enterprises. Here should be related Tajik plant of textile machine building, Vakhsh nitric
plant, Kurghontepa transformer - building plant, giant of textile industry corporation "Tojiktextile". Silk-mills and canning industry are concentrated in Dushanbe and
Khujand.
Mining and chemical industry is developed in the north of Tajikistan. Putting into operation gold production in the towns of Chkalovsk and Tajik-British joint venture in Panjakent create conditions for solving the important strategically tasks-getting the high quality production on the level of world
standards, creation of gold reserve in country revival of jewelry production from local
stuff.
Some words must be said about training of specialists and national
education. There are 30 universities and technical schools. Tajik Technical university prepared thousands specialists such as
engineers, builders, energetic, motor workers for the country. Specialists, who graduated from these educational
establishments, work in all parts of Tajikistan. It is added by the technological
Institute. Students of this institute go abroad to get better practice and to learn new technology and
production.
The Academy of Sciences coordinates the scientific researches in the
Republic. It is founded more than 50 years ago and includes many scientific centers and laboratories where works about three thousands scientists solving the problems connected with
economy, mathematics, geology, medicine, astrophysics and etc.
The names of the famous Tajik historians such as academician Hero of Tajikistan Bobojon Ghafurov is highly spoken in many countries of the
world. Tajiks are proud of such scientists as A. Bahovaddinov, S. Umarov, M.
Osimi, P. Bobojonov, S. Nematulloev who greatly contributed in the development of sciences in
Republic.
The Institute of Seismology must be mentioned particularly, because it is well-known all over the world by its investigations and discoveries in the field of long-termed prognosis of
earthquake.
The Institute of Oriental Studies and Manuscripts reserve invaluable grant of
past. Scientists of the Institute introduce readers to wisdom of ancient philosophers and historians
Especially must be mentioned names of specialists of medicine who are well known not only in Tajikistan but in the world of science abroad
too. These are names of prof. H. Mansurov the Honorary Director of Institute of
Gastroenterology, prof. A. Pulatov the children surgeon. These and other doctors-scientists are caring on the traditions laid by the great
Avicenna.
Much work is done by the Institute of Geology, where they investigate mineral reserves of
country. Many deposits of non-ferrous metals,
coal-fields, precious, facing, hand-made article stones were discovered by geologists of this
Institute.
It is already mentioned that there are more than 6 million people in
Tajikistan. So 1 million 522 thousands of them are pupils which are taught by 90 thousands of
teachers.
Tajikistan is a multinational country. There live Tajiks, Uzbeks, Russians,
Kyrgyzians, Ukrainians, etc. It left an impression in the culture of the
Republic.
There are the Aini Opera and Ballet, the Mayakovski Russian Drama, the Lohuti State Academic Drama Theatres in
Dushanbe. On play bills one can meet not only the names of Tajik
authors, but also European ones. M Vakhidov Youth Theatre and Ahorun Theatre are very popular in
Tajikistan.
There are some interesting dancing ensembles such as "Zebo",
"Lola", "Jahonoro". They go on tour to other countries
also. Folk dances, melodies of "Shashmakom",
opera, ballet old and new traditions enriching each
other, give great flare of art in Tajikistan. Twice there had been taken place international competitions of balled masters after Malika Sobirova ballet dancer whose name is among the best world ballet
stars.
The Republic competitions of "Parastu" for professional theatres and
"Andaleb" for art amateur groups are periodically held for revealing new talents in the districts and regions of
country.
Tajik drama theatre after Lohuty was founded in thirtieth gave a number of magnificent names such as
M. Kasimov (Farrukh Kosimov is his son, who is also a talented actor and
producer) T. Fozilova, A. Bourhonov, H. Rahmatulloev. We should also mention works of modern composers
T. Shahidi, F. Soliev, F. Bahor and others. The songs of Akasharif
Juraev, Odina Hoshimov, Jurabek Murodov, Zafar Nozimov are very popular among the
people.
